Symposia

The MWG was formed as an outgrowth of the first international symposium on the biology and conservation of martens, sables, and fishers that was convened in Laramie, Wyoming in 1991 (see Buskirk et al. 1991). Since that time, the MWG has organized an international symposium every 4-5 years where members can discuss their concerns and share information about their research programs.

2023 – Aviemore, Scotland

The 8th International Martes Symposium will be held 12-15 September 2023, in Aviemore, Scotland.


2018 – Ashland, Wisconsin, USA

The 7th International Martes Symposium was held the week of 30 July – 4 August, 2018 at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, USA. The theme of the meeting was “The Martes Complex: Does the ecology match the phylogeny?
