Building a Community for Guloninae Conservation
The Martes Working Group hosts events that bring together scientists, conservation professionals, students, and supporters who share a commitment to protecting the species of the Martes complex. These gatherings encourage collaboration and support the conservation of all eleven species in this group.
Martes Meets
Our "Martes Meets" are regular webinars and informal sessions that allow members to engage year‑round, share updates about ongoing projects, and discuss new findings. These online events are ideal for staying connected between the major symposiums.
International Symposia
MWG hosts an International Symposium every few years. These meetings feature scientific presentations, panel discussions, poster sessions, field excursions, and social activities. Participants share research, discuss conservation challenges, and build lasting professional relationships.
Field Trips
During symposiums, participants can explore local forests and habitats, meet with land managers and researchers, and learn about ongoing restoration, research, and monitoring projects.
Social Gatherings
Our symposium's welcome socials, themed dinners, and charity auctions provide attendees with an opportunity to unwind, connect, and learn about current conservation initiatives.
About Our Symposia
International Platform
Our symposia have rotated between North America, Europe, and Asia since the early 1990s. Each gathering is designed to highlight the geographic range of Martes complex species and to provide a forum for sharing research, discussing conservation challenges and building global connections.
Program Highlights
A typical symposium runs for several days and features keynote talks, research presentations and poster sessions. Workshops and panel discussions enable participants to delve into topics in depth.
Field excursions to local habitats and social events, such as welcome receptions, dinners, and fundraising raffles, provide hands-on learning and networking opportunities.
Community and Impact
These gatherings welcome participants from diverse backgrounds, including students, volunteers, professionals, and researchers. Fundraising activities help provide travel bursaries, ensuring broad participation and accessibility.
Each symposium concludes with a shared understanding of the status of Martes complex species and the key priorities for research and conservation.
Martes Meets
Martes Meets are virtual events designed to maintain momentum between our symposiums. These meets can include anything from webinars, panel discussions, to live Q&A segments with researchers.
Participants can learn about new research methods, discuss pressing conservation issues, and forge connections with colleagues worldwide.
